How long does a tooth extraction take to heal?

The healing of a tooth extraction site takes place in various stages. We would advise that you will need to take regular pain relief for at least three days after you've had your tooth out but sometimes, depending on the procedure, you may need to take this for seven to ten days afterwards. That doesn't mean that you can't continue your normal activities and work in that time, everybody is different and what really helps is regular saltwater mouthwashes.

The initial phase of the tooth socket healing is for the gum to close over the area and that generally takes around three weeks and again saltwater mouthwashes really help with the healing in that area.

Once the gum is closed over, the bone begins to heal underneath as well and that can take a little longer but if you're looking to have a dental implant placed, often we can look at placing a dental implant to replace your tooth from eight weeks after your tooth extraction depending on where the tooth is in your mouth you.
