Although most people have some nerves about visiting the dentist, we understand how distressing the prospect of treatment can be for patients with a dental anxiety or dental phobia. At The Campbell Clinic, we provide a calm, safe and relaxing atmosphere for your treatment, and are happy to talk your concerns and feelings through at length to work out the best way to manage your anxiety.
For some patients, it is enough to understand what the treatment will entail and to explain the measures taken to safeguard your comfort at all times. However, this isn’t always enough. If you are a nervous patient and very anxious, we are able to provide sedation to make your treatment entirely manageable.
Please phone us or book an appointment to find out more about how we can help.
Dental anxiety is common and affects people of all ages. Figures suggest that 9-15% of the population experiences dental anxiety, ranging from slight nervousness to severe dental phobia. However, the figures could be much higher because people tend not to discuss their fears and may simply avoid dental treatment altogether.I have dental anxiety - how can you support me?
The most important thing is that you let us know how you feel about the prospect of dental treatment. We can then help you manage your anxiety, while ensuring that you get the dental care and treatment you need. Sometimes, it helps if we are able to break the treatment into small steps – for example, you may want to come in and sit in the chair for a while without having any treatment – or you may feel better if we are able to give you back a sense of control and choice. Can’t I just be sedated?
For some patients, sedation provides a way of making their dental anxiety and treatment entirely manageable. For other patients, it may not be appropriate or necessary. We will talk through all your concerns and your individual feelings to come up with a plan that is right for you.

I appreciate the recognition from Colin of my nervousness regarding surgery; nothing seemed too much trouble to him and I was made to feel at ease and at peace.
The team now feel more like family than service providers and I thank them from the bottom of my heart.
