Karen Walker - Dentist in Nottingham at The Campbell Clinic

Here at The Campbell Clinic there are many clinicians and staff members you can meet, here you can get to know a little bit about one of our dental hygienists, Karen Walker.

Hi, I’m Karen Walker and I’m the lead dental hygienist at The Campbell Clinic.

Why did you first get into dentistry?

I chose a career in dentistry because originally, I thought I could be a dentist and then one day at my school this lady came along in her little caravan and she was a dental hygienist, and she was working on some epidemiology and teaching kids how to clean their teeth and look after themselves and so I thought I'd quite like to do that.

Where did you study?

I studied at Edinburgh dental hospital in 1994 and I have a certificate in dental hygiene.

What are your main interests in Dentistry?

My main interests in dentistry are around dental implants and I’ve worked hard to implement protocols for patients in the practice. A lot of my time is spent looking after implants, maintaining them and also treating any gum disease that occurs around implants.

What do you enjoy about being a dentist?

What I enjoy most about being a dental hygienist is getting to meet lots of different people and ultimately knowing that I'm helping them with their health.

What are your hobbies outside of dentistry?

Outside of dentistry I like to walk my dog, she is a Basset Hound called Mabel and I also like to do a bit of gardening as well.

Karen Walker

After qualifying as a hygienist in Edinburgh in 1994, Karen moved to Nottingham where she worked in a variety of dental practices before taking a five-year career break after the birth of her son. Since returning to dentistry, Karen had attended various courses to enhance her in-surgery skills. She is a dedicated hygienist keen to equip her patients with the knowledge she has gained, to enhance their smiles and, ultimately, their general health and wellbeing.
