Can Dental Implants be completed in a day?

Over recent years many patients have asked the question “can implants be carried out in a single day” which seems more convenient and much easier for patients and clinics themselves.

As with all complicated questions the answer is yes and no.

There are some situations where placement of dental implants at the same day as extraction or placement of implants in a day and immediately fixing a crown or restoration to an implant is possible but this is a very complex procedure which should only be carried out by experienced teams following a very careful assessment of individual patients.

There is no immediate dental implant treatment which is available for all patients all the time as it depends on very careful assessment of the circumstances that the patient presents with and it is assessed by the clinical team.

Immediate replacement of single teeth with a crown on the same day can be a complex and difficult procedure, this is not a procedure that should be carried out by anything other than very experienced implant teams and should be discussed carefully with individual patients to ensure they are aware of the potential risks and benefits of such a procedure.

The ability to replace all teeth or a full jaw of teeth immediately is a more established process and for appropriately qualified teams this is something which can be done and can transform the lives of individual patients.

At all times though it is important to consider that implant treatment such as these require experience, training and excellent teamwork to be able to provide the best possible results and it is very important to ask implant providers who are providing such treatment what they have in place to make sure that treatment is safe and effective.

Another important consideration is that implants placed at the front of the mouth in the top jaw may not be suitable for immediate placement the vast majority of the time as the long-term results and appearance of these implants can be compromised and this is something that you should discuss carefully with your implant providers to ensure you get the result you desire.

Conscientious and caring implant practices will be happy to discuss all aspects of treatment and all options available to you as necessary.

Often dental implants are a complex treatment plan, and this should be considered carefully by patients wishing to uptake treatment.

If you are interested in proceeding with dental implant treatment, an open and honest conversation about all options available with an experienced and highly trained team is always the safest way forward.
