10 easy tips to improve your smile

  1. Keep your teeth as clean as possible

Take professional advice on the best way to clean your own teeth, particularly from a well-trained dental hygienist. Using the appropriate toothbrush (either a medium, small head toothbrush or ideally an electric toothbrush) and the appropriate toothpaste will allow you to keep your teeth nice and clean on a daily basis. The use of aids to clean in between your teeth is also essential and for your own mouth this can be advised to you by an excellent dental hygienist.

Keeping your teeth clean is one of the best ways to improve your smile.

  1. Attending for regular dental check-ups.

Attending for regular dental check-ups will ensure that your teeth will be retained and maintained for as long as possible before requiring any further treatment. This also allows you access to advice on cleaning your teeth and minor improvements to assist in their appearance.

  1. Whitening

Modern techniques to whiten (bleach) your teeth are non-invasive and non-damaging to teeth if carried out by trusted and well-trained dental professionals, including dentists and dental hygienists.

Whitening teeth can provide a dramatic and improved effect on patients who have stained or darker teeth, and in conjunction with good oral hygiene and good cleaning, together with routine dental check-ups, can be one of the easiest ways to achieve a dramatic improvement in the appearance in your teeth.

  1. Application of small white fillings

In many cases the application of small white fillings can improve the overall appearance of your teeth and change the shape, with minimal damage or affect. This can be done with a trusted dental practitioner, advice can be given on that from good dental practices.

  1. Re alignment of teeth (braces)

For teeth that are not entirely in line and where other steps have been taken, including the above, movement of teeth into position of a more favourable and pleasing appearance can be carried out by a qualified dental and ideally by orthodontic practitioners to dramatically improve the appearance of teeth.

In some cases, this can be done with clear aligners, for example Invisalign, in other cases fixed braces have to be applied for the movement of teeth.

There is no age restriction on the movement of teeth, and in conjunction with bleaching and additional white fillings, can provide excellent results in many patients.

  1. Changing existing stained white fillings

If you have white fillings in your front teeth which have become stained due to diet, tea/coffee and red wine etc. changing the white fillings or even just polishing these can provide a huge improvement.

  1. Filling gaps at the front of your mouth

Filling spaces at the front of your mouth using dentures/bridgework or dental implants can provide an excellent improvement in appearance and overall function of teeth.

  1. Extensive restorative work

In cases where teeth are very worn or badly damaged, extensive restorative work including crowns, bridges and veneers, together with other treatments to fill any existing gaps can provide dramatic overall improvements in teeth.

These are complex cases which require team planning and generally multi practitioners to be involved to obtain the best possible result.

  1. Replacement of damaged teeth

Sadly, in some cases, removal of all remaining teeth is required either in one jaw or both. In these cases, there are multiple options for replacement of teeth including provision of a denture, implant retained or supported dentures, or implant fixed bridgework.

These cases are complex implant treatments and should only be carried out by practitioners who are appropriately qualified and highly experienced in the areas of these treatments.

  1. Smiling with confidence

Once confidence is achieved the best thing to improve your smile is to smile broadly and widely with confidence and happiness as this will show people how happy you are with your smile.
