This patient had previously had root canal treatments and crowns on their 2 front teeth. For the last 3 months prior to their visit to the clinic they had been suffering from symptoms in that area, including tenderness, swelling and pus drainage. After discussing the relevant options the patient decided to go with the option of trying to save the teeth.
Once examining the CBCT scan which was taken, we suggested to the patient carrying out an apicectomy to try to save the tooth.
An Apicectomy is a surgical procedure to treat an infection on the tip of the tooth, where conventional treatment (root canal treatment) has previously not worked.
This treatment is usually done on anterior teeth, it allows the tooth to be saved and heal from the tip of the tooth.
This procedure was carried out and both surgery and recovery were very straightforward.
Since then, several review appointments have occurred to monitor the healing. The treatment has been a success with no further symptoms occurring as soon as 2 weeks after surgery.
